Text and image elements that must not be trimmed should be placed at least 5 mm inside the safe zone, away from the trim edge.

Please use Adobe PostScript Type 1 fonts or OpenType, not TrueType fonts.

Inserts
Approval: 3 sample copies or 3 dummy samples together with a stand sample 5 weeks before publication to Sales Administration Print Schweizer Familie.

Delivery note
The information on the delivery note must correspond to that on the pallet flags.
For deliveries from abroad, the delivery conditions (INCO terms) must be listed on the commercial invoice: DDP – Delivered duty paid.

The costs of customs clearance are borne by the importer.

Delivery conditions for inserts and bound inserts

Clean delivery without damage/deformation of the product and first page stacked upwards. Piggyback inserts with the first page facing down. On pallets or in pallet frames in bundles that are easy to handle, approx. 8-12 cm (uncrossed and unbanded).

A cardboard insert between every 2nd - 3rd layer to prevent the inserts from deforming and slipping.

Envelopes and small brochures must be placed on pallets in the same direction, free of play, protected against slipping by intermediate bars and bases.

For special products, please ask about the packaging.

Adhesive inserts

Delivery cleanly without damage/deformation of the product and stacked with the first page facing down. In pallet frames in bundles that are easy to handle, approx. 8-12 cm (uncrossed and unbanded). A cardboard insert between every layer to prevent the adhesive inserts from deforming and slipping.

Adhesive inserts and product samples must not stick to one another.

Samples of goods must be placed on pallets in the same direction, free of play, protected against slipping and damage by intermediate bars and bases.

For special products, the packaging must be requested.

Palletizing
Euro-format pallets must be used. 1:1 exchange The pallet packaging must prevent the contents from shifting, sliding or being damaged. It must be designed in such a way that no moisture can penetrate from the outside. A pallet flag must be attached to at least two sides (front sides), but if possible to all four sides.

The pallet flag must contain the following information:
a) Object to be covered
b) Issue number/date
c) Title of insert, bound insert or sticker
d) Language
e) Number of copies on the pallet
f) Total number and number of pallets
g) Sender and recipient
h) Space for notes

Glued-on inserts

Stand: The spine of glued-on inserts must run parallel to the spine of the magazine. Distance from the spine min. 10 mm, max. 100 mm. Distance from the head, foot and front trim min. 15 mm.

Formats: Min. 85 x 55 mm, max. 148 x 210 mm (portrait format).

Quality standard: Stand deviations of +/- 3 to 5 mm are possible.

Paper weight: Minimum 150 g/m2, maximum 300 g/m2. Postcards must comply with postal regulations.

Equipment: Glued-on inserts must be cut to size precisely and cleanly, and brochures stapled. Errors of up to 1% of the number provided are within the tolerance.

Bound inserts

Placement: middle of the booklet, attached to the head, other placement on request.

Formats: Min. 105/148 x 148 mm + 5 mm head trim. Max. 210 x 290 mm + 5 mm head, foot and front trim, 10 mm grip fold at the back. Distance of elements not to be trimmed from the format trim at least 8 mm due to tapering of the spine.

For booklet format, the imprint "Promotional supplement for Schweizer Familie . . ./. . ." must be printed on the first page.

Weight: up to 49 g, from 50 g on request.

Paper weight: 4-sided, min. 100 g/m2, larger sizes min. 60 g/m2.

Equipment: Folded, not pre-stapled, if smaller than booklet format, foot and front trimmed to final format.

Loose inserts

Placement: according to technical feasibility.

Formats: Min. 105 x 148 mm, max. 195 x 270 mm. Booklet format 210 x 290 mm only for subscription editions.

Weight: up to 49 g price according to tariff, from 50 g price on request.

Paper weight: 2-sided min. 150 g/m2, 4-6-sided min. 90 g/m2, 8-24-sided min. 60 g/m2.

Thickness: maximum 2 mm, thicker on request.

Equipment: folded, stapled from 8 pages, cut to size.

Please inform AVD of the binding individual weight of the insert no later than 20 working days before publication and send 10 specimen copies.

The delivery note must contain the following information:

• Number of copies
• Name, issue number and publication date of the magazine for which the insert is intended.

The packing slips should contain:

• Name of the magazine
• Name of the supplement
• Date of issue
• Total number of inserts
• Number of inserts on the pallet
• Number of inserts per package
• Individual pallet number
• Total weight of the pallet
• Name, address and telephone number of the printing company
• Reserved space for two barcodes

Deliver inserts unbanded / not interleaved and not in boxes.
Inserts weighing up to 100 g must be placed face up on the pallet!
For inserts weighing more than 100 g, you must ask whether they are to be palletised with the front side facing up or down (see palletisation).

Formats
Minimum format: DIN A6 (105 x 148 mm)
Maximum format: Height and width 10 mm smaller than final magazine format. 

Insert weights
Single sheets: Minimum paper weight of 170 gm2, regardless of format.
Multi-page sheets: Total weight up to 100 grams, inserts over 100 grams only after consultation with the publisher.

Postcards
The shorter or longer side of the insert must be closed. Inserts with a fanfold or altar fold (zig-zag) can be processed by machine, but must be agreed with us. Postcards must always be glued to the inside of inserts. Postcards glued on the outside only on request with a feasibility check.
